Practice your free throw shot. This looks easy, but it is actually very hard to do. Practice this technique regularly. Start out by holding the basketball right in front of you. Keep looking towards the goal and think about the ball getting into that goal. Then shoot! Shoot the ball in the trajectory you imagined.

Learn to crossover if you get the ball often. A crossover means moving the ball between your hands. This action most be quick to work out. Once you have learned how to do a crossover, you can travel down the court quickly.

You must have good balance to shoot well. You’ve seen the pros fall out-of-bounds and shoot a basket up to 300 feet away, however, this isn’t proper technique. These shots are improvisational and usually desperate attempts. Point your feet towards the basket, guide the ball with your weaker hand and push the ball away with your strong hand whenever you shoot the basketball.

Don’t just practice playing against a zone defense. Always try to anticipate when your opponent is going to switch up their game to catch you off guard. If you haven’t trained yourself to counter this, you could lose any control you have over the game.

Are you interested in being able to fool the other team? Try using a back pass! You want to grip the basketball with your strongest hand. Now hold the ball behind you. Flip your wrist towards the site where you want the ball to go. This will confuse the other team into wondering where the ball went.

If you have a child that is strength training for basketball, their core muscles should be properly developed. Core muscles include hips, abs and the lower back. Core muscles are the connectors between arms and legs. If the core muscles are weak, basketball performance will suffer. When your core muscles are strong, you become a more powerful force on the court. This means greater speed and higher jumping skills.

Focus on your footwork and your core strength in your workouts. With a stronger core, you’ll be able to balance better. Give your hips, buttocks, back and stomach a workout. Jump rope like the boxers do to increase your footwork speed.

Concentrate on your shoulders if you have gotten into a shooting slump. No matter your skill level, you won’t make shots if your shoulders aren’t in the proper position. Keep your shoulders squared with the basket at all times. If your right hand is your dominant hand, your right shoulder must be aligned with the rim. For left-handedness, the opposite is true.
